As tempting as it might be to shoot the ball with a punch shot, the best thing you can do for a bunker shot is to keep the face up. This is how sand wedges are built in the first place. Doing so will ensure that your shot provides enough height to get out of the sand trap. If you do a punch shot, you may be able to get out of the bunker with the right bounce, but will often end up positioning your put in a bad spot. Or, even worse, end up in the rough.
Swing Strong
Remember that the face of the sand wedge is positioned to shoot the ball more vertically than it does horizontally. Therefore, when you swing with some muscle the worst that will happen is that it will shoot higher than expected. Don’t be afraid to be aggressive with your swing.
