Tips for Getting Out of a Bunker

Many of the people visiting golf courses in Chester County PA get frustrated when they get stuck in a bunker. Golfing would be a lot less fun if there were no hazards. Part of the fun of being a golfer is knowing how to avoid and get out of these sorts of traps. Below, we have some tips to help you out.

Keep the Face Up

As tempting as it might be to shoot the ball with a punch shot, the best thing you can do for a bunker shot is to keep the face up. This is how sand wedges are built in the first place. Doing so will ensure that your shot provides enough height to get out of the sand trap. If you do a punch shot, you may be able to get out of the bunker with the right bounce, but will often end up positioning your put in a bad spot. Or, even worse, end up in the rough.

Swing Strong

Remember that the face of the sand wedge is positioned to shoot the ball more vertically than it does horizontally. Therefore, when you swing with some muscle the worst that will happen is that it will shoot higher than expected. Don’t be afraid to be aggressive with your swing. This will help you ensure that you also get the height you need to get out of the bunker, as well as good placement for your put.

Practice to Build Confidence

There is no magic trick that will help you instantly become good at your bunker shots. However, if you practice in repetition keeping the above tips in mind, then you will start to build confidence. With confidence will come the ability to shoot out of the bunker when it really matters during your next serious round of golf.
